Archbishop Flynn Secondary School

Thousands of children lost their parents during the war in North Uganda forcing them to become orphans and resulting into the creation of many child headed families. HIV/ AIDS took its toll killing score of young couples leaving their children completely helpless.

Founded in 2009 and located in Pader District (North Uganda), Archbishop Flynn Secondary School aims is  to bridge this big gap in education between the war affected north and the rest of the country that had been developing for more than 20 years. AFSS wants to offer opportunity especially to children who are very poor but capable to get quality education.

The school has land for small farming to sustain itself  and improve on students’ diet. In the farm the last three years the school has been cultivating maize, beans, groundnuts, cassava and pineapples. The school has bought a maize mill to process maize grains into mail flour; which is also benefiting the community to be leased for a resonnable price.

The school had wanted some dairy cows for its farm both for milk production and also for practically training the students in dairy farming but lacked the  resources. The school also intends to open a poultry and piggery in the school farm in the near future. Through these projects needy students shall be supported and given equal opportunity for quality education like others in the rest of the country.

Women’s Initiatives Network support to the AFSS in improving their farm activities is a direct assistance not only to the current students but also give the opportunity to receive new children.
With providing cows, tools for managing their farms as well as training, WIN wishes to join the efforts of the Community in rebuilding the lives of their children.
